Lucerne (Safeway brand) Greek Nonfat Yogurt

Lucerne (Safeway's store brand which is also available at Dominicks here in Chicago) has jumped on the "Greek" yogurt bandwagon. Unfortunately, there's nothing very Greek about this yogurt.

On the plus side, it's better than most regular yogurts. It's creamier and has more protein. If you are not a fan of Greek yogurt, but you want a yogurt that is just a bit better for you than the regular stuff, this might be a good choice for you.

But compared to more authentic Greek yogurt, it's a little thin. It also has more carbs and less protein. Plus, the ingredients list is a bit longer than it should be.

There were three flavors available at my local Dominicks: plain, vanilla and strawberry. I liked the strawberry best. There were nice size chunks of strawberry integrated into the yogurt, unlike Chobani's strawberry yogurt which gets a bit runny from the fruit on the bottom. (I'll be doing a full review on that one soon.) The plain was very creamy, but it just didn't seem right. I like a more traditional Greek yogurt. And the vanilla tasted exactly like regular vanilla yogurt to me. If it didn't say "Greek" on the label I wouldn't have known.

  1. I found it horrible- and the fake bits of strawberries left the yogurt discoloured as well. The flavour was not very good at all- I will not buy this again.
